Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +10.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 8.6% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the third consecutive year, Eastern Asia recorded decline in purchases abroad of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition), which decreased by -25.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 17%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 27%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) represented the largest importer of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition), generating 60% of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total imports.
