In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the East Asian mushroom and truffle market, when its value decreased by -0.7% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In value terms, mushroom and truffle exports contracted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 17%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), achieving an 8% share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mushrooms and truffles exports, with a CAGR of +12.8% from 2012 to 2022. South Korea (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +19 percentage points.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest mushroom and truffle supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -12.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep slump. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while China totaled $X per ton.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of mushrooms and truffles were imported in Eastern Asia; shrinking by -46.5% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 36%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Hong Kong SAR represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Macao SAR (X tons), making up a 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - each finished at a 4.1% share of total imports.
Imports into Hong Kong SAR decreased at an average annual rate of -1.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Macao SAR (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Macao SAR emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-10.2%) and South Korea (-29.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR increased by +39 and +11 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mushrooms and truffles in Eastern Asia, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 5.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Macao SAR, with a 5.4% share.
In Hong Kong SAR, mushroom and truffle imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (-8.4% per year) and Macao SAR (+10.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -62.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 22%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton.
