In value terms, soft drink exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +94.9% against 2013 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, South Korea (X litres), distantly followed by China (X litres), Taiwan (Chinese) (X litres), Japan (X litres) and Hong Kong SAR (X litres) were the major exporters of soft drinks, together committing 100% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 78% share of total exports.
Japan, with a CAGR of +10.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2021, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 9.1% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per litre), while China ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, the amount of soft drinks imported in Eastern Asia soared to X litres, picking up by 18% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, soft drink imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
China represented the largest importing country with an import of about X litres, which amounted to 47% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X litres) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Japan (11%), South Korea (7.8%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (5.1%). Macao SAR (X litres) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +20.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported soft drinks in Eastern Asia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 13% share.
In China, soft drink imports increased at an average annual rate of +29.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+4.5% per year) and Japan (-1.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per litre, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
