Exports in Eastern Asia
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by 50% to X tons in 2021. Total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -18.1% against 2016 indices. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -21.7% against 2018 indices. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) was the key exporter of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles in Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 47% of total exports in 2021. China (X tons) held a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (23%). Japan (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest non-alloy aluminium bar supplying countries in Eastern Asia were Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), South Korea ($X) and China ($X), together accounting for 91% of total exports.
China, with a CAGR of +18.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep setback. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) dominates imports structure, together achieving 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), China (X tons) and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons), together committing a 22% share of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic People's Republic of Korea (with a CAGR of +55.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest non-alloy aluminium bar importing markets in Eastern Asia were South Korea ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Hong Kong SAR and Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which together accounted for a further 18%.
Among the main importing countries, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, with a CAGR of +47.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Democratic People's Republic of Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
