In general, exports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, orange juice (single strength) exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 79% of total exports in 2022. Japan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - each amounted to a 4.2% share of total exports.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -4.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+31.3%) and Japan (+20.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic People's Republic of Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +31.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-2.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-15.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Japan (+7.1 p.p.) and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of China (-3.8 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest orange juice (single strength) supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to -1.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+24.9% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-1.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -14.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Democratic People's Republic of Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of orange juice (single strength), when their volume decreased by -21.3% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, orange juice (single strength) imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

China was the key importer of orange juice (single strength) in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. South Korea (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 31% share, followed by Japan (15%). The following importers - Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - together made up 5.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +27.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, South Korea ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 95% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +26.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
