In 2022, approx. X tons of pears and quinces were imported in Eastern Asia; with a decrease of -1.6% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pears and quinces imports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+9.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Hong Kong SAR (-4.8 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest pears and quinces importing markets in Eastern Asia were Hong Kong SAR ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 99% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +21.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%.
