The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -29.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Macao SAR (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), South Korea ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 73% of total imports. Japan, China and Macao SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Macao SAR, with a CAGR of +17.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 94%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Macao SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
