The East Asian polycarbonate market dropped to $X in 2022, reducing by -6.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 8.9%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

China dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 81% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), achieving a 6.5% share of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 5.8% share.

In China, polycarbonate imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-11.7% per year).
