In value terms, preserved cows meat exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the largest exporter of prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals, generating 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), achieving an 18% share of total exports. The following exporters - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - each resulted at a 5.5% share of total exports.

Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +40.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+5.9 p.p.), South Korea (+3.3 p.p.), Japan (+2.8 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -14.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals in Eastern Asia, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hong Kong SAR totaled -3.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-6.0% per year) and South Korea (+9.3% per year).
