Rabbit Meat Market Size in Eastern Asia

The East Asian rabbit meat market contracted slightly to $X in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a slight decline. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, rabbit meat exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, rabbit meat imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 252% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Japan was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), mixing up a 19% share of total imports. Macao SAR (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

In Japan, rabbit meat imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-5.5% per year) and Macao SAR (+27.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a modest increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 105%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Macao SAR (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
