Exports by Country
In 2021, Japan (X tons) was the largest exporter of silver in semi-manufactured forms, constituting 61% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by South Korea (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Japan decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2021. South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Taiwan (Chinese) (-13.2%) and Hong Kong SAR (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Japan (+18 p.p.) and South Korea (+6.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Hong Kong SAR (-4.2 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-20.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest semi-manufactured silver supplying countries in Eastern Asia were Japan ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports.
Japan, with a CAGR of +0.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of silver in semi-manufactured forms, when their volume increased by 1.2% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, semi-manufactured silver imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of silver in semi-manufactured forms, namely Taiwan (Chinese), China and Hong Kong SAR, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Japan (X tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (9.1%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +0.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 75% share of total imports.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +4.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
