The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sorghum exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 166%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sorghum exports, with a CAGR of -20.9% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest sorghum supplier in Eastern Asia.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 300% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sorghum imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 298%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
China dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 97% of total imports in 2022. Japan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sorghum imports, with a CAGR of +63.6% from 2012 to 2022. Japan (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+93 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Japan (-87.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
