The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of table linen, knitted or crocheted. China (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest table linen supplier in Eastern Asia.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 4.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, table linen imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Japan (X tons) represented the main importer of table linen, knitted or crocheted, constituting 49% of total imports. South Korea (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Hong Kong SAR (13%), China (10%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (6.3%).

Imports into Japan decreased at an average annual rate of -5.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+14.4%) and China (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +14.4% from 2012-2022. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-9.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Korea, China and Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +17, +5.8 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table linen, knitted or crocheted in Eastern Asia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 10% share.

In Japan, table linen imports contracted by an average annual rate of -6.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+15.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-10.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 4.1% against the previous year. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Japan ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
