Exports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, teleferics and chair-lifts exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), comprising a 17% share of total exports. South Korea (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars exports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. South Korea (-10.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+46 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) saw its share reduced by -3.1% and -42.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest teleferics and chair-lifts supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 4% share of total exports.
In China, teleferics and chair-lifts exports decreased by an average annual rate of -3.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (-21.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-37.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -52.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 31%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-6.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, approx. X units of teleferics, chair-lifts, ski-draglines and traction mechanisms for funiculars were imported in Eastern Asia; standing approx. at the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 313% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, teleferics and chair-lifts imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 286% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X units) and China (X units) prevails in imports structure, together mixing up 89% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.7% share, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (5.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest teleferics and chair-lifts importing markets in Eastern Asia were South Korea ($X), China ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), together accounting for 94% of total imports.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +17.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -8.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 34%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+13.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
