Triticale Market Size in Eastern Asia

The East Asian triticale market rose markedly to $X in 2022, picking up by 6.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Triticale Production in Eastern Asia

In value terms, triticale production rose rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 164%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of triticale production, accounting for 100% of total volume.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China stood at -1.5%.

The average triticale yield totaled X tons per ha in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021. In general, the yield, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. In 2021, overseas shipments of triticale decreased by -78.5% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 69,980% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, triticale exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 106,914%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2021.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the triticale exports, with a CAGR of +49.6% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest triticale supplier in Eastern Asia.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 1,157%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, triticale imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw strong growth. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the major importer of triticale, creating 84% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), making up a 14% share of total imports. Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to triticale imports into China stood at +6.7%. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+21.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +21.4% from 2012-2022. In China, triticale imports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (+11.0% per year) and Japan (-5.1% per year).
