For the fourth consecutive year, the East Asian waffle and wafer market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 0.7% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, waffle and wafer exports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. China dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - South Korea (X tons), Japan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) - together made up 14% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to waffle and wafer exports from China stood at +8.7%. At the same time, Japan (+22.6%), South Korea (+11.7%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +22.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Japan increased by +4.9 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest waffle and wafer supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 7.9% share.

In China, waffle and wafer exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+19.6% per year) and South Korea (+11.5% per year).

In 2021, approx. X tons of waffles and wafers were imported in Eastern Asia; with an increase of 35% against the year before. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, waffle and wafer imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion.
