In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates, when their volume increased by 21% to X cubic meters. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, China (X cubic meters) and Japan (X cubic meters) represented the largest importers of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates in Eastern Asia, together comprising 85% of total imports. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X cubic meters), achieving a 13% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, growing by 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 7.5%. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per cubic meter), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
