The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 72% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +16.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 15%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of worked flat glass, when their volume decreased by -1.2% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 38%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, worked flat glass imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

China (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main importers of worked flat glass in 2021, reaching near 39% and 35% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Japan (X tons), together making up a 25% share of total imports.
