In value terms, wrapping papers exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 5.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +7.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. South Korea (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - each recorded a 4.5% share of total imports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard imports, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+3.1%), Japan (+1.6%) and Hong Kong SAR (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +17 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Eastern Asia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 11% share.
