While the share of Bulgaria (+16 p.p.), Ukraine (+5.7 p.p.) and Russia (+3.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Poland (-6.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest abrasives supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 3% share.

In Poland, abrasives exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+31.1% per year) and Ukraine (+47.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -23.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +48.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together committing 86% of total imports. Bulgaria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported abrasives (natural) in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.5% share.

In Russia, abrasives imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+6.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (+4.0% per year).
