Acetic Anhydride Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European acetic anhydride market declined sharply to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -51.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed strong growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of acetic anhydride were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, acetic anhydride exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a pronounced increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The Czech Republic (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting 84% of total exports. Poland (X tons) held an 8.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Estonia (5.7%). Latvia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest acetic anhydride supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Estonia, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Czech Republic stood at +1.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+11.2% per year) and Estonia (+6.9% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 120% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, approx. X tons of acetic anhydride were imported in Eastern Europe; which is down by -64.3% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 232%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, acetic anhydride imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. Poland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 51% share of total imports.
