In 2021, the East European agricultural and forestry tractor market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In value terms, agricultural and forestry tractor production expanded significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 35%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of agricultural and forestry tractors was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, agricultural and forestry tractor exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 53% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Poland (7.7%), Bulgaria (5%), Lithuania (4.6%) and Russia (4.5%). Hungary (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to agricultural and forestry tractor exports from Belarus stood at -6.0%. At the same time, Hungary (+15.6%), Lithuania (+6.6%) and Russia (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. Bulgaria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-1.5%) and Poland (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hungary (+3.4 p.p.), Lithuania (+2.7 p.p.), Russia (+2.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -14.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest agricultural and forestry tractor supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bulgaria ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 10% share.

In Belarus, agricultural and forestry tractor exports shrank by an average annual rate of -6.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+7.6% per year) and Hungary (+27.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 26%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of agricultural and forestry tractors increased by 45% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, agricultural and forestry tractor imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of agricultural and forestry tractor imports in 2021 were Poland (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Russia (X units), together amounting to 65% of total import. Lithuania (X units) took a 5.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (5.4%) and the Czech Republic (4.8%). The following importers - Hungary (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) - together made up 7.2% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +7.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest agricultural and forestry tractor importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports. Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 8.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
