Aluminium Tube Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the East European aluminium tube market increased by 31% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after six years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of aluminium tubes and pipes decreased by -39.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium tube exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2022. Russia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Romania (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of aluminium tubes and pipes. At the same time, Romania (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +6.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ukraine (-5.3%) and Russia (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+24 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -14.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest aluminium tube supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 5.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland totaled +4.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-12.5% per year) and Romania (+10.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of aluminium tubes and pipes, when their volume increased by 126% to X tons. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aluminium tube imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +109.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Romania was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 62% of total imports. Russia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took near 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Bulgaria (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - each finished at a 12% share of total imports.

Romania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aluminium tubes and pipes imports, with a CAGR of +14.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+2.3%) and Russia (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bulgaria (-2.0%), Belarus (-3.8%) and Hungary (-9.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Romania (+35 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-1.5 p.p.), Russia (-4 p.p.), Bulgaria (-4.6 p.p.), Poland (-4.6 p.p.), Belarus (-5.7 p.p.) and Hungary (-12.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Romania ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium tubes and pipes in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 10% share.

In Romania, aluminium tube imports increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+2.2% per year) and Russia (-7.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -17.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
