The East European monoammonium phosphate market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of monoammonium phosphate (MAP), when their volume decreased by -17.2% to X tons. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +12.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, monoammonium phosphate exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 123%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Lithuania (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - each amounted to a 4.1% share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+30.3%) and Lithuania (+25.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +30.3% from 2012-2022. Lithuania (+2 p.p.) and Poland (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -2.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest monoammonium phosphate supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 4.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +1.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+28.6% per year) and Poland (+34.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -11.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Monoammonium Phosphate Imports
Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, the amount of monoammonium phosphate (MAP) imported in Eastern Europe declined rapidly to X tons, falling by -38.2% on the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 49%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, monoammonium phosphate imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belarus (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) represented the main importers of monoammonium phosphate (MAP), together committing 91% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest monoammonium phosphate importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Belarus ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 49% share of total imports. Romania, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +18.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate measured growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
