Stainless Steel Angle Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European stainless steel angle market shrank slightly to $X in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Stainless steel angle exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, increasing by 44% on 2020. Total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +56.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, stainless steel angle exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the major exporter of angles, shapes and sections of stainless steel or other alloy steel, achieving 72% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by the Czech Republic (6%) and Ukraine (4.5%). Romania (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to stainless steel angle exports from Russia stood at +6.5%. At the same time, Romania (+26.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +26.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.3%), Ukraine (-6.9%) and Poland (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest stainless steel angle supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports. Romania and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +18.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -18.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+13.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of angles, shapes and sections of stainless steel or other alloy steel were imported in Eastern Europe; which is down by -9.9% against 2020 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, stainless steel angle imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Romania represented the largest importer of angles, shapes and sections of stainless steel or other alloy steel in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 36% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Belarus (16%), Russia (13%), Slovakia (5.8%) and the Czech Republic (5.7%). The following importers - Hungary (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.8% share of total imports.

Romania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the angles, shapes and sections of stainless steel or other alloy steel imports, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+10.7%), Poland (+10.5%), Hungary (+6.1%) and Bulgaria (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-5.7%), Russia (-13.8%) and Ukraine (-25.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Romania, Poland and Slovakia increased by +26, +11 and +4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest stainless steel angle importing markets in Eastern Europe were Romania ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports.
