In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the East European antisera market, when its value decreased by -18.5% to $X. Overall, consumption posted measured growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 65%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, antisera exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, exports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic was the largest exporter of antisera and other blood fractions in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 46% of total exports in 2021. Hungary (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons). All these countries together held near 44% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to antisera exports from the Czech Republic stood at +17.5%. By contrast, Poland (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+20 p.p.) and Hungary (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -33.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest antisera supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Hungary ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 88% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +68.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -18.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of antisera and other blood fractions imported in Eastern Europe soared to X tons, picking up by 21% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, antisera imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the key importer of antisera and other blood fractions, achieving 37% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons), together mixing up a 48% share of total imports. Slovakia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest antisera importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +24.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 27%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
