After six years of growth, the East European table-tennis equipment market decreased by -77% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption saw a abrupt contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, table-tennis equipment production rose significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -6.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 47%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of articles and equipment for table-tennis, when their volume decreased by -22.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 74%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, table-tennis equipment exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) represented the main exporter of articles and equipment for table-tennis, comprising 45% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Estonia (X tons), together mixing up a 42% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the articles and equipment for table-tennis exports, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+21.9%), Romania (+13.6%), Lithuania (+2.0%), the Czech Republic (+1.6%) and Estonia (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Hungary (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+36 p.p.) and Russia (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -3.4%, -7.4%, -9.7% and -18.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest table-tennis equipment supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Estonia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland stood at +35.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (+1.8% per year) and Hungary (+7.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of articles and equipment for table-tennis decreased by -20.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, table-tennis equipment imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.6% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 64% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together comprising a 22% share of total imports. Slovakia (X tons), Estonia (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +14.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Estonia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 61% of total imports.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +14.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
