Twine Product Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European twine product market amounted to $X in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. For the seventh year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of articles of twine, cordage, rope or cables, which increased by 7.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, twine product exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the major exporter of articles of twine, cordage, rope or cables in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 37% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Latvia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together making up a 54% share of total exports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the articles of twine, cordage, rope or cables exports, with a CAGR of +29.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+25.7%), Lithuania (+15.8%), the Czech Republic (+14.7%), Latvia (+12.9%) and Hungary (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Belarus, the Czech Republic and Lithuania increased by +27, +3, +2.2 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 65% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +24.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, imports of articles of twine, cordage, rope or cables in Eastern Europe soared to X tons, increasing by 36% on 2020. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +104.7% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, twine product imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +85.8% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) was the key importer of articles of twine, cordage, rope or cables, mixing up 35% of total imports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Romania (11%), the Czech Republic (9.3%), Ukraine (6.7%), Hungary (6.5%) and Bulgaria (5%).

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the articles of twine, cordage, rope or cables imports, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+15.9%), Bulgaria (+9.1%), Romania (+7.0%) and the Czech Republic (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-3.8%) and Ukraine (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria increased by +24, +3.9, +2.2, +1.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
