In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 24%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -12.0% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) represented roughly 63% of total exports in 2021. Poland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Slovakia (8.7%) and Romania (7.6%). The Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +27.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Ukraine ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 72% share of total exports. Slovakia, Romania and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +28.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 9.3%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, artificial and colloidal graphite imports in Eastern Europe skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 25% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 82%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the main importer of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations, making up 58% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together making up a 34% share of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+35.2%), Ukraine (+13.7%), Belarus (+10.7%) and Russia (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +35.2% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary increased by +13 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations in Eastern Europe, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 2.7% share.

In Poland, artificial and colloidal graphite imports increased at an average annual rate of +28.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+37.4% per year) and Russia (-4.4% per year).
