In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bacon and ham exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, faced a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hungary (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main exporters of bacon, ham and other dried, salted or smoked pig meat in 2022, resulting at approx. 36% and 29% of total exports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Lithuania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Latvia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 24% share of total exports. Belarus (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hungary ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
Among the main exporting countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bacon and ham export price increased by +55.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 49% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, the amount of bacon, ham and other dried, salted or smoked pig meat imported in Eastern Europe expanded rapidly to X tons, picking up by 5.1% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +92.1% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The purchases of the three major importers of bacon, ham and other dried, salted or smoked pig meat, namely Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic, represented more than half of total import. Hungary (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.6% share, followed by Lithuania (7.7%), Slovakia (6.4%) and Latvia (5.1%).

Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
