Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, base metal closure exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 18%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the key exporter of base metal closures, stoppers, caps and lids, constituting 42% of total exports. In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest base metal closure supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +13.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+8.0% per year) and Ukraine (+1.1% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of base metal closures, stoppers, caps and lids in Eastern Europe stood at X tons, surging by 4.4% against 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base metal closure imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of base metal closure imports in 2021 were Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together recording 65% of total import. Romania (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together held near 16% share of total imports. The following importers - Slovakia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each accounted for an 8.1% share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest base metal closure importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 60% of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 27%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +9.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+17.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
