In 2022, the East European office metal staple market increased by 2.4% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the market value increased by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +30.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest office metal staple supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 75% share of total exports. Belarus, Hungary and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +21.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, office metal staple imports shrank to $X in 2022.
