Base Station Market Size in Eastern Europe
In 2021, the East European base station market increased by 7.5% to $X, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base station exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hungary dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. Romania (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to base station exports from Hungary stood at -4.1%. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary and Romania increased by +51 and +2.3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest base station supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 3.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hungary amounted to +4.2%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Hungary amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+25.9%).
Base Station Imports
Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, approx. X tons of base stations were imported in Eastern Europe; surging by 1.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, base station imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 105%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), achieving a 16% share of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to base station imports into Russia stood at -5.1%. At the same time, Hungary (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +1.6% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-15.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hungary (+7.6 p.p.) and Russia (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -6.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base stations in Eastern Europe, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at -4.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+10.8% per year) and Belarus (+10.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 44%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+13.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
