Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, overseas shipments of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes) were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -24.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, benzol, toluol and xylol exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) represented roughly 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), making up a 4.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +4.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest benzol, toluol and xylol supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports.
Poland, with a CAGR of +2.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Slovakia ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-1.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes) was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, benzol, toluol and xylol imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the key importer of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes), generating 59% of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Bulgaria (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Romania (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 30% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total imports.
Imports into Poland decreased at an average annual rate of -5.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+55.2%), Bulgaria (+26.9%), Russia (+11.3%) and Romania (+9.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +55.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ukraine (-9.8%) and the Czech Republic (-25.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+24 p.p.), Bulgaria (+8.3 p.p.), Russia (+5.2 p.p.), Belarus (+4.4 p.p.) and Romania (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -46.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes) in Eastern Europe, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to -9.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (-24.5% per year) and Bulgaria (+18.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 36% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
