Beryl Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European beryl market increased by 15% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw a pronounced descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Beryl Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, beryl production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2019, overseas shipments of beryl decreased by -80.7% to X kg for the first time since 2015, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 1,088%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2019, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beryl exports dropped sharply to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 1,252%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Slovakia prevails in exports structure, accounting for X kg, which was near 96% of total exports in 2019. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X kg) and Hungary (X kg) - each finished at a 3.4% share of total exports.

Slovakia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beryl exports, with a CAGR of +327.7% from 2012 to 2019. Hungary (-10.7%) and the Czech Republic (-26.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Slovakia (+96 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2019, the share of Hungary (-13.1 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-70.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the largest beryl supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports.

In Slovakia, beryl exports increased at an average annual rate of +290.3% over the period from 2012-2019. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-9.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (-21.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2019, which is down by -54.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 96%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018, and then fell sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2019, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+7.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of beryl were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, beryl imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 204%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Hungary dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Romania (X kg), constituting a 7% share of total imports.

Hungary was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beryl imports, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Romania (+12.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary increased by +41 percentage points.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beryl in Eastern Europe, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.

In Hungary, beryl imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2021.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -95.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 684%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Hungary totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (-0.7%).
