In 2021, the East European bismuth market increased by 50% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. In 2021, overseas shipments of bismuth increased by 135% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 1,169%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bismuth exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 1,523%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 71% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Lithuania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 25% share of total exports. Russia (X kg) held a little share of total exports.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bismuth exports, with a CAGR of +34.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+19.8%), Hungary (+16.1%) and the Czech Republic (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+51 p.p.) and Lithuania (+5.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-10.3 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-26.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) emerged as the largest bismuth supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland totaled +30.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+12.8% per year) and Hungary (+22.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 48%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, the amount of bismuth imported in Eastern Europe surged to X tons, growing by 29% against 2020. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons) was the main importer of bismuth, mixing up 38% of total imports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Poland (16%), Hungary (13%), Ukraine (6.9%), Belarus (5.1%) and Romania (4.6%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bismuth imports into the Czech Republic stood at -1.7%. At the same time, Romania (+62.6%), Ukraine (+32.7%) and Poland (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +62.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-1.6%), Hungary (-4.5%) and Russia (-9.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Ukraine and Romania increased by +7.5, +6.4 and +4.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest bismuth importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Hungary ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 72% share of total imports. Poland, Romania, Ukraine and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +39.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
