Bleached Sulphite Pulp Market Size in Eastern Europe
The East European bleached sulphite pulp market expanded sharply to $X in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of bleached sulphite pulp decreased by -3% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 236% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bleached sulphite pulp exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 140%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the main exporter of bleached sulphite pulp, creating 82% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Belarus (6.3%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bleached sulphite pulp exports from Russia stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+65.7%) and Poland (+16.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +65.7% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia, Poland and Belarus increased by +66, +11 and +6.3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest bleached sulphite pulp supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.
In Russia, bleached sulphite pulp exports declined by an average annual rate of -8.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+84.2% per year) and Poland (+2.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+11.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
Bleached sulphite pulp imports expanded remarkably to X tons in 2022, surging by 8.5% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bleached sulphite pulp imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Slovakia represented the largest importer of bleached sulphite pulp in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 39% of total imports in 2022. Poland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Romania (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) - together made up 5.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Estonia (with a CAGR of +62.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bleached sulphite pulp importing markets in Eastern Europe were Slovakia ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 64% of total imports. Romania, the Czech Republic, Belarus and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
Estonia, with a CAGR of +42.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bleached sulphite pulp import price increased by +7.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 26%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
