The average blueberry and cranberry yield was estimated at X tons per ha in 2022, picking up by 10% compared with 2021 figures. In general, the yield saw a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the yield increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the blueberry and cranberry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The blueberry and cranberry harvested area reduced modestly to X ha in 2022, shrinking by -4.1% compared with the year before. Overall, the harvested area, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. In 2022, approx. X tons of blueberries and cranberries were exported in Eastern Europe; increasing by 14% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 44%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) represented the major exporter of blueberries and cranberries, creating 65% of total exports. Romania (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Ukraine (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 30% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +15.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (+21.6%), Belarus (+13.3%), Ukraine (+12.5%), Latvia (+11.0%) and Lithuania (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +21.6% from 2012-2022. While the share of Poland (+6.8 p.p.) and Romania (+5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Ukraine (-1.5 p.p.), Latvia (-2.3 p.p.) and Lithuania (-4.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest blueberry and cranberry supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +14.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+27.4% per year) and Ukraine (+18.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, waning by -14.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of blueberries and cranberries were imported in Eastern Europe; surging by 28% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Poland represented the key importer of blueberries and cranberries in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 38% of total imports in 2022.
