The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bone glue and gelatin exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -33.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Poland (X tons) represented the major exporter of bone glues and gelatin, making up 47% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by the Czech Republic (10%), Estonia (5%) and Russia (4.9%). The following exporters - Lithuania (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - each recorded a 6.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bone glue and gelatin exports from Poland stood at +21.8%. At the same time, Estonia (+31.1%), Lithuania (+8.7%), Russia (+5.1%) and Belarus (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +31.1% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ukraine (-12.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+39 p.p.), Belarus (+4.8 p.p.), Estonia (+4.6 p.p.) and Lithuania (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ukraine saw its share reduced by -9.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest bone glue and gelatin supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland totaled +20.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+4.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+9.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 28%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of bone glues and gelatin, when their volume decreased by -9.4% to X tons. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, bone glue and gelatin imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the key importer of bone glues and gelatin, constituting 37% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together committing a 51% share of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +10.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 69% of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Ukraine and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
Among the main importing countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +9.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 8.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
