Bridge Market Size in Eastern Europe
In 2021, the East European bridge market decreased by -22.5% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, consumption showed a noticeable descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bridge production dropped notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a pronounced slump. For the third consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded decline in shipments abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), which decreased by -4.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 76%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bridge exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons), distantly followed by Slovakia (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Russia (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the main exporters of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), together constituting 92% of total exports. Romania (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bridge supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Hungary ($X), together comprising 61% of total exports. Poland, Latvia, Russia and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
Among the main exporting countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +10.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) decreased by -10.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 163% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bridge imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 101%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Lithuania (X tons), Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main importers of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), together comprising 86% of total imports. The following importers - Estonia (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) - each accounted for a 5.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +28.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 60% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
