By contrast, Slovakia (-2.7%), Romania (-4.4%) and the Czech Republic (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+16 p.p.), Ukraine (+6.5 p.p.), Estonia (+5.1 p.p.) and Belarus (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-3.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest wooden builders' joinery and carpentry (excl. windows, doors, posts and beams, assembled flooring panels) supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Estonia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 66% share of total exports. Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Among the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
