Bumper Market Size in Eastern Europe
The East European bumper market expanded modestly to $X in 2022, with an increase of 2.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bumper production expanded notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 17%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of bumpers increased by 26% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, bumper exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic represented the major exporter of bumpers in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 54% of total exports in 2022. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by Hungary (8.7%) and Slovakia (8.2%). The following exporters - Russia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - each recorded a 3.1% share of total exports.
The Czech Republic was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bumpers exports, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Slovakia (+12.1%), Russia (+11.0%), Hungary (+9.9%), Poland (+7.9%) and Romania (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of the Czech Republic (+15 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Hungary (-1.6 p.p.) and Poland (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest bumper supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.
In the Czech Republic, bumper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+12.1% per year) and Hungary (+12.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -11.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 17%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bumper Imports
Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, purchases abroad of bumpers increased by 19% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, bumper imports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 56%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) was the largest importer of bumpers, comprising 46% of total imports. Russia (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (12%), Hungary (12%) and Poland (10%). Romania (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bumper imports into Slovakia stood at +11.2%. At the same time, Hungary (+25.0%), Poland (+6.7%), Russia (+5.1%), the Czech Republic (+4.1%) and Romania (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +25.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Slovakia (+9.6 p.p.) and Hungary (+8.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Poland (-1.9 p.p.), Russia (-5.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-6.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 66% of total imports. Poland, Hungary and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +15.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -17.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 12%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
