Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, calcium carbonate exports reached $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Latvia (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the key exporters of calcium carbonate in Eastern Europe, together resulting at near 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together making up a 30% share of total exports. The following exporters - Bulgaria (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - each reached a 6.7% share of total exports.

These countries were followed by Russia, Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 36%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +41.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 13%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of calcium carbonate decreased by -3.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, calcium carbonate imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Latvia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) was the largest importer of calcium carbonate in Eastern Europe, generating 64% of total import. Lithuania (X tons) took an 8.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (7.6%), Russia (5.4%) and Bulgaria (5.4%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +62.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Romania ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 63% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 18%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +22.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+11.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
