For the third consecutive year, the East European calendering machine market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 17% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption showed prominent growth. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, overseas shipments of calendering and rolling machines increased by 140% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. By contrast, Ukraine (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Lithuania, Poland, Belarus and Russia increased by +39, +9, +4.5 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Lithuania ($X) remains the largest calendering machine supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 11% share.

In Lithuania, calendering machine exports increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+4.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (-14.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -48.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the third year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of calendering and rolling machines, which increased by 23% to X units in 2021. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 123%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, calendering machine imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 44%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Russia prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 91% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X units), comprising a 5.6% share of total imports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the calendering and rolling machines imports, with a CAGR of +25.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ukraine (+14.4%) displayed positive paces of growth.
