In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the East European canned pineapple market, when its value decreased by -0.1% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2022, exports of canned pineapples in Eastern Europe reduced to X tons, which is down by -11.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 22%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, canned pineapple exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of canned pineapples, namely Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X tons) and Estonia (X tons), together making up a 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Romania (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - each accounted for an 8.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +20.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest canned pineapple supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 68% share of total exports.
Russia, with a CAGR of +23.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -2.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, canned pineapple export price increased by +42.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, the amount of canned pineapples imported in Eastern Europe contracted to X tons, declining by -3.6% compared with 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, canned pineapple imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 53% of total imports. Poland (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (5.7%), Ukraine (5.6%) and the Czech Republic (4.7%). Belarus (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of canned pineapples. At the same time, Romania (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +4.4% from 2012-2022. Poland, Hungary and Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.8%) and Ukraine (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+2.8 p.p.) and Romania (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ukraine saw its share reduced by -4.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest canned pineapple importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports.
Romania, with a CAGR of +9.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
