Carbon Brush Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European carbon brush market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 29% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas shipments of carbon brushes decreased by -0.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -29.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carbon brush exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons), together mixing up a 35% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carbon brush exports from Hungary stood at +13.8%. At the same time, Romania (+27.3%) and the Czech Republic (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +27.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hungary (+32 p.p.), Romania (+9.1 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -19.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest carbon brush supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hungary stood at +14.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (+29.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 21%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of carbon brushes were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbon brush imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 83% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), making up a 5.4% share of total imports. Slovakia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +3.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest carbon brush importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Hungary ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +4.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
