The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, carbon electrode exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a modest increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 119%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Poland was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 54% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest carbon electrode supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 27% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +8.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-3.6% per year) and Ukraine (-5.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, waning by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 57% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, imports of carbon electrodes in Eastern Europe dropped to X tons, falling by -10.2% against 2021 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, carbon electrode imports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 97%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 89% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total imports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of carbon electrodes. Poland (-2.8%) and the Czech Republic (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+7 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carbon electrodes in Eastern Europe, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports.
In Russia, carbon electrode imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+0.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+0.0% per year).
