Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, casein and caseinates exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, Ukraine (X tons) represented the main exporter of casein and caseinates, creating 48% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Latvia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together mixing up a 52% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +199.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the fifth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of casein and caseinates, which increased by 6.7% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +102.0% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported casein and caseinates in Eastern Europe, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 2.3% share.

In Poland, casein and caseinates imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+17.6% per year) and Latvia (+6.7% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
