Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 76%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, wood box and cable drum exports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, Poland (X units) was the key exporter of wood boxes, crates and cable drums, generating 40% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Estonia (X units), Slovakia (X units), Romania (X units) and Hungary (X units). All these countries together took approx. 51% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lithuania (X units) and Latvia (X units) - each amounted to a 4.4% share of total exports.

From 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per unit), while Latvia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of wood boxes, crates and cable drums were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Romania ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 35% share of total imports. Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.9%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +23.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wood box and cable drum import price increased by +122.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
