Bulgaria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (+30.8%), Russia (+14.6%), Bulgaria (+10.5%), Lithuania (+9.2%), Hungary (+8.4%) and the Czech Republic (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +30.8% from 2012-2022. Romania (+12 p.p.) and Russia (+7.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Poland saw its share reduced by -7.6% and -13.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest polystyrene cellular plates, sheets and films supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.
In Poland, exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+31.0% per year) and Hungary (+9.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 26%. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.5% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented roughly 65% of total imports in 2022. Romania (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9% share, followed by Bulgaria (6.1%), Estonia (5.6%) and Lithuania (5.1%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +15.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hungary ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 53% share of total imports.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +16.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Lithuania ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Estonia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
